Huawei to deploy Mobilink’s WiMAX network in Pakistan

Posted in Infrastructure, Telecom by techlahore on July 8, 2008

To follow-up on a story we reported on a few months ago, Huawei Technology from China has been chosen by Mobilink parent, Orascom, to deploy their WiMAX network in Pakistan. After Wateen/Warid’s WiMAX implementation, this will be the second largest.

It’s interesting to note that Wateen chose a US-company, Motorola, for their implementation, while Mobilink has chosen a Chinese partner. We can’t wait to see how the quality of both will compare. We’ll admit, having heard several complaints about the Motorola implementation, the dice is a little loaded for the bake-off! We think Huawei will probably end up delivering the higher-quality experience. Let’s see.

The Business Recorder reports:

Huawei to deploy WiMAX network in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (July 07 2008): China’s Huawei Technologies said on Wednesday it has been selected by Mobilink, the largest GSM operator in Pakistan and a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom, to deploy a commercial WiMAX 16e network.

Huawei said the network will cover central business districts and hot spots in Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, CNBC reported. Under the terms of the contract, Huawei will provide Mobilink with a WiMAX solution to help the company meet Pakistan’s increasing broadband needs.
