South Korea to establish Textile research center in Karachi; embedded software to be translated in English

Posted in Education, innovation by techlahore on June 15, 2008

South Korea has been exporting textile units to Pakistan for the past many years. The machines that are part of these factories run large amounts of embedded software. But, though the South Koreans build excellent technology they don’t have much of an english speaking population. Hence, the software is typically all implemented in Korean thus limiting its global potential. Now, with South Korea looking to expand its relationship with the Pakistan’s Textile industry with the establishment of a Textile research center in Karachi, Pakistan has proposed the internationalization of this embedded software and subsequent localization in the English language. Perhaps this is one of the first projects the research center in Karachi could pursue.

This announcement was made at a meeting held at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, between members of the business community in Pakistan and a South Korean delegation headed by Mr. Young Hawa Lung, Director of the Korea Trade Center. Mutual cooperation in other areas, including expanding Pakistan’s bio-tech and pharmaceutical exports to Korea were also on the agenda.

Korea to open textile research centre in Karachi Pakistan

Pakistani industrialists are experiencing hardships in handling the plants imported from Korea for textile units in Pakistan due to software installed therein in Korean language.

President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shamim Ahmed Shamsi in a meeting with Director of Korea Trade Center in Karachi, Young Hawa Lung who called on him at KCCI,  suggested that the software be translated  in English language.

[...]

He also underlined the need for enhanced cooperation and collaboration in the production of pharmaceutical raw material.

The Director KOTRA responded that Korea is happy for support and  close relations with Pakistan in exports of petrochemicals and fisheries sector.

He was of the view that due to growing economy of Pakistan, Korea looks forward to work with Pakistan in enhancing trade activities.

He said Korea is planning to open a textile research centre at Karachi which would act as a catalyst to develop trading with Pakistan for developing textile products on international standards.
