Warid Telecom to invest a further $1.5BN in Pakistan by end 2009
Warid Telecom’s cell phone service has been quite a success story. They’ve grown their subscriber base rapidly and are well poised to deliver other services to their customer base. A couple of the big infrastructure efforts they’ve been working on have been through their parent company, Wateen. They’re planning to build their own high-bandwidth Fiber network throughout the country and are also delivering WiMax services to consumers and businesses in Pakistan.
Their investment in Pakistan hasn’t stopped though, because Wateen and Warid see tremendous growth potential over the coming years. Their CEO, Marwan Zawaydeh, and Chief Commercial Officer, Thomas Yeo, recently announced that they would be investing a further $1.5BN in infrastructure development in Pakistan over the next 18 months. Some of this money will be used to double their cell towers to 5,000 sites by end of 2008. Good going Warid! Quotes from a news story and a link to the article after the break.
Warid Telecom Pakistan further investment to reach one point five billion by end of year
Thursday, 22 May 2008 20:01 Pakistan Daily
The Warid Telecom’s total investment in Pakistan will touch $1.5 billion by the end of this year while the company will further increase its investment in the telecom sector by $1 billion by the end of 2009.Warid Telecom Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Marwan Zawaydeh, disclosed this while addressing a news conference organised here Wednesday to share the company’s achievements, recognitions and future plans after completing three years of successful operations in Pakistan. Warid Telecom Chief Commercial Officer Thomas Yeo also spoke on the occasion.

Wateen is anything BUT a success story. Their execution has been horrible and the current rumors are that they’re going to go bust if they dont get their invoicing system up (yep …they’ve been in the business for over 18 months and still arent able to send invoices to post paid customers).
A timely decision, if not too late….they are far behind in coverage, with only 250 cities…and on forth position with only 17 percent share…
I have the signal problem, and finally I switch to another connection in 800 Rs. with 512kbps, unlimited download/upload
Rates are still high for Wateen, but for WiMax technology they are fair. As an internet user I need good speed, NO limit and less rates.
Wateen will hopefully came up with some better plan.
Digital Camera Accessories
Wateen has to concentrate on the current environment. They have to provide unlimited down loading just like ptcl broadband and seperation of phone from device. And provide the higher speed than the ptcl broadband if the want to survive in the market.
No wonder they got money reipping off poor people; WARID PrePaid customer should know if you go over the limit which is your security deposit then the will stop you outgoing as well as incoming calls too yes incomming calls to0 is’nt it non-sense it’s better to be prepaid customer atleast you get incoming calls. eventhough postpaid bring more business than prepaid paid
Good Luck!
